The University of Nottingham is one of largest universities in the UK, comprising of four main campuses with modern buildings.
Global has won the competitive tender for Nottingham University as the most comprehensive provider of passive fire protection services.
Global was contracted in order to provide the Hallward Library at the University Park with high standard passive fire protection solutions. Before the commencement of the works, the Hallward Library had completed a passive fire survey in recognition of the obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and other legislation to ensure Fire Compliant Buildings. The works had to be carried out in an environment where students were learning 24/7. This presented difficulties as certain works can be particularly noisy.
Main parts of the Library building were regularly visited by the general public.
Throughout the project period, Global worked together with the Estate and Security Team in order to deliver the best possible outcome for the client.
Existing issues with fire compartments, floors, fire walls and fire doors were identified and new passive fire protection was put in place. Fire damper survey was also completed.
Products where selected to achieve the 60 minute integrity requirements this included both Hilti penetration sealing products and fire barriers from Rockwool.
All installation where completed in line with Hilti design specifications to achieve a minimum rating of 60 minutes.
On completion certification was issued under the FIRAS third party approved scheme.
All the Passive Fire Protection works were completed in the agreed time frame, providing the University Library Building with an increased passive fire protection system. Our client has been pleased with the standard and quality of works. Therefore, Global HSE Solutions had received further smaller passive fire protection works throughout the campus.
