At Global, social value is an important part of the work we do. We are keen to educate the younger generation and inspire them with our fire safety works. As a part of this, work experience is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work we do, both on site and in our office. Recently, Dylan Marais completed his work experience at Global, and this is what he shared about his time with us.
“I really enjoyed my week here at Global and feel as though I have gained some very valuable experience. It has been great to learn how a company works and to understand the aspects of fire safety and engineering that I can take into college and apprenticeships. Prior to my week at Global, I had never learnt about fire safety and the engineering behind this, but it was something that I took great interest in and is an industry that I can see myself working within in the future.
It was great to have the opportunity to work with many different aspects of the business and see how they all work day to day. This included health and safety, sales and marketing, and contract support. I worked alongside the Global Technical Services team with Matt and Andreas, and got to experience them working on fire risk assessments and facades. This included the chance to go and experience some on-site work at Potters Bar Wetherspoons, whereby I watched them identify areas of external façade to identify components in the internal façade. It was very interesting to see how the work they do on computers translates into real life.
Additionally, we were able to be involved in some meetings during the week. This included a commercial meeting with Jonathan and Ian. It was great to experience the communication and organisation that Global has in place.
Overall, I have had a really enjoyable week and have learnt so many valuable skills that I can take forward in my education. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to gain experience at Global, and I’m now feeling inspired to develop my skills further.”
